'Once' wins at Drama Desk Awards

Once, the new musical based on a 2006 film about an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by music, walked away as the top winner at the Drama Desk Awards, receiving four trophies Sunday night in New York for musical, director (John Tiffany), lyrics (Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova) and orchestrations (Martin Lowe).
Nina Raine's Tribes was named outstanding play, and Follies won in the musical revival category. Other winners include Audra McDonald, musical actress for The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess; Tracie Bennett, actress in a play for End of the Rainbow; Danny Burstein musical actor for Follies; and Judith Light, featured actress in a play for Other Desert Cities.
Newsies The Musical received two Drama Desk Awards. which went to Alan
Menken (Outstanding Music) and Christopher Gattelli (Outstanding Choreography).
