Most Pittsburghers don't know how to pronounce the word "churrascaria," let alone describe what one is (myself included). However, after a visit to the Green Forest Brazilian Restaurant, the word has quickly established itself as one of my all-time favorites. Essentially, churrascaria is a Brazilian style of cooking over charcoals and when served in a restaurant, passadores (aka meat waiters) come to your table with large skewers of meat and knives to shave off slivers. When seated, the waiters grant you a spool-like marker that is red on one side and green on the other. Green side up encourages the passadores to bring on the meat parade, while red signals them to stop. You're also provided with a pair of tongs and instructed to assist waiters by grabbing your slice of meat straight off the skewer as they cut it. Expressions of amazement, incredulity and awe ran across our faces as the passadores visited our table with enough meat to transport even the most well-practiced carnivore to hog heaven. Flank, ribeye, filet, poultry, turkey, sausage are all on hand--some even bacon-wrapped! Along with the meat, Green Forest boasts gourmet seafood and salad bars. While you definitely don't want to fill up on any superfluous food items, a palate cleanser in between mouthfuls of meat is nice. Voluminous dining rooms with long tables provide a great place for birthday partys or large gathering of anti-veggie enthusiasts. The atmosphere is festive and the BYOB policy is strongly encouraged (expect corkage fees). While some say the place is on the pricey side (approx. $35 a person), I think it's just the right amount for a night of over-indulging and trying something new.

Eh. I don’t feel strongly about it either way. I don’t hate it or love it, I wouldn’t recommend it or dismiss it, it just is.
