Walking through the mall at Station Square is like going through a time warp. There aren't very many stores to begin with, and the shops that are there have seemingly been around since the dawn of time. As for eateries, there are several options, including Kiku Japanese Restaurant.
The place has a casual and low key vibe, and the decor is anything but fancy. The food, however, is top notch. The dinner menu is expansive with soups, appetizers, sushi, entrees and desserts. My date and I shared the vegetable tempura, which was flavorful and cooked perfectly. Sushi is made fresh to order and is presented beautifully. Roll options are plentiful and include the Shadyside (salmon and cream cheese) and the Steelers (eel and avocado). A wide range of fresh sashimi and nigiri is also available.
While service can feel a bit slow at times, the careful preparation of the food is evident. Every server I've had here has been prompt, polite and knowledgeable about the menu. While its surroundings and decor seem to be stuck in the mid-80's, Kiku is hands down my favorite sushi place in the Burgh.
